Pro-Vision Academy Valedictorian Treavon Tyron Chosen to Attend White House Initiative Listening Session

Pro-Vision Academy is proud to announce that senior Treavon Tryon was chosen to participate in a listening session for the The White House’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. The My Brother’s Keeper national initiative was created to promote growth and opportunity for boys and young men of color. It is a goal that’s shared and supported by Pro-Vision Academy.

He has received numerous accolades and scholarships for his academic achievements thus far and has also been accepted to attend Texas A&M this coming fall. The listening session will serve as a valuable opportunity for Mr. Tyron and the other attendees to hear what the national plan for the initiative entails and learn how they can get involved.

Leading the session will be Jim Shelton. Mr. Shelton is the Executive Director of the My Brother’s Keeper initiative as well as the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. He and other White House officials will be on hand to discuss how the initiative is tackling issues that are uniquely problematic for boys and young men of color, which range from lack of reading proficiency to becoming victims of violence.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the White House, foundations and businesses across the country. An Executive Alliance task force is working diligently to identify the strategies that are working and what can be done through federal policies to improve conditions for young men and boys of color. Local listening sessions are designed to increase awareness and hear thoughts from the community on how the Executive Alliance can meet their goals. The next listening session is scheduled to be held on Thursday morning, May 15, 2014 at the Neighborhood Centers Inc. facilities in Houston, TX.
